A sea of sails at Gustavia port

In March and April, the nautical port of Gustavia hosts a number of major events including, in a few weeks, the Bucket Regatta, Les Voiles de Saint-Barthélemy and the Transat AG2R.

On 17 March, the Bucket Regatta welcomes imposing yachts of over 100 feet (30.5 metres) in length for three days of racing (www.bucketregattas.com/stbarths). Less than a month later, from 11 – 16 April, Les Voiles de Saint-Barthélemy will celebrate their 7th edition with more than 1200 sailors from 20 different countries, including many stars (Loïc Peyron and Terry Hutchinson) and 80 boats. Four days of racing are punctuated by shows and evening concerts in the village where the race begins, entertainment in town, and fireworks and picnics on Colombier beach (www.lesvoilesdesaintbarth.com).

A few days later, in late April, the competitors in the Transat AG2R race (Figaro Bénéteau class monotype-category boats) reach the finish after a run of about 3800 miles (6116 km) between Concarneau and St Barth ( www.transat.ag2rlamondiale.fr).
