Everybody has heard about it. During a formal dinner, or by word of mouth... But do you really know the true story behind Art Basel? Here is a little reminder.
Miami Beach Art Basel is Art Basel's little sister, a Modern and Contemporary Art Fair created in Bale in 1970. In 2002, it took its mark in Miami to slowly become the largest art event of the entire North-American continent.
For this 15th edition, 269 gallery owners from all around the world offer more than 4,000 artists' works on display. There is a $50 entrance fee to the Convention Center, but a world of art opens up to you after that.
Paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, digital art and films are available. Be shocked, filled with wonder or simply moved... Isn't it what art is made for?
In the meantime, and in order to best prepare your stay, here are a few of the Miami spots not-to-be-missed.
Miami Beach Convention Center
At the corner of Washington and 17th St., this is where everything happens. Each year, more than 70,000 visitors set foot in the huge exhibition area. Miami Art Basel organisers have chosen to divide the event space into 3 sections: one devoted to galleries, with a display of upcoming and confirmed artists as well as some classical masterpieces. The Nova section is designed to put forward lucky new artists with previously unseen works of art. The last one, called Position, allows curators, critics and collectors to discover new projects by hand-picked young talents.
