Asian megacities on display at MFA

MFA, Boston, one of the most important US museums, puts on a rich Asian program.

The explosive development of Beijing, Shanghai, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Seoul is as fascinating as it is disorienting. The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston has organised a major exhibition devoted to the subject, as seen through the eyes of their emerging and established contemporary artists. Among the many included here is the subversive Chinese artist Ai Weiwei and India's Subodh Gupta and Hema Upadhyay. The show celebrates the ever-transforming urban landscapes and contrasting architecture, and examines some of the region's most pressing issues, including the rural exodus, consumerism, and pollution. The exhibitions ‘London and Edo: Cities on the Rise', ‘Ruined: When Cities Fall', and ‘Year of the Monkey' provide a deeper appreciation of these captivating urban and Asian themes.
