Engebret Café, local institution

In a quaint atmosphere, an ideal restaurant to try out local gastronomy.

The Engebret has no equivalent for those looking to try good Scandinavian food. It is an elegant restaurant, set in a house dating from the 17th century. You can taste one of the classics of Nordic gastronomy: reindeer meat, as well as the lutefisk typical dish during holiday periods. A recipe based on marinated and pickled fish, with strong flavours that recall ancient Viking culture. Here, it is served with potatoes, another staple of traditional Norwegian cooking. For starters, try the king crab baked in oven with a lemon cream, or the salmon tartare prepared with egg yolk and horseradish, served on a bed of cress.

In terms of decoration, wood panelling and plush large curtains warm the atmosphere and give the whole a typical Nordic style.

On the walls, there are pictures of the great personalities of the country who have dined in this key location in Oslo. Since you are in the theatre district, celebrate with an improvised cultural and authentic evening, in the image of Oslo itself.
