Created in 1971 by His Majesty the late King Hassan II, a great golf enthusiast, this tournament has been registered in the calendar of the European Tour since 2010. It takes place on the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam, designed by Robert Trent Jones to be the greatest of Moroccan golf courses. Its red course is the most difficult of any European competition. Very technical, it is a delight for strategists, and the 9th hole is famous worldwide. Meanwhile, the 22nd edition of the Lalla Meryem Cup for women takes place on the blue course. Though it may seem a less strenuous and more enjoyable course, it is no less difficult, especially its 11th hole, which is a 405-metre par 4.
Even if you are not a golfer—or you come outside the dates of the trophy—you should be aware that the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam really knows how to entertain its visitors. Its clubhouse, with very 1960s lines, features a bar, a restaurant, and even a gym. For access to the pool, there is a fee of 100 MAD, and if tennis is your thing, a half-hour package with a coach costs 60 MAD.
