Ironman at Frankfurt am Main

The Ironman European Championship takes place in the historic centre of the ultramodern city of Frankfurt am Main and its surrounding bucolic villages.

The Ironman race begins with a 3.8 kilometre swim in the calm, warm waters (between 22°C and 24°C) of the Langener Waldsee. Then, athletes get on their bikes and ride 180 kilometres through the skyscrapers in the business district of Frankfurt out to the nearby valleys with their small bucolic villages. The marathon section of the race ends with four very fast laps before a crowd of thousands of spectators gathered downtown along the promenade that borders the river. Featuring more than 2,000 triathletes representing 40 nations, this competition has been won by great champions like Peter Reid and Normann Stadler.
