Lisbon: cultural capital

In 2017, Lisbon is set to be the epicentre of Ibero-American culture across the oceans.

After being European Capital of Culture in 1994, Lisbon has been chosen the Ibero-American Capital of Culture for 2017. This beautiful Portuguese city, vibrant and cultured, will create bridges with the American continent. A rich programme, supported by the cultural institutions of the city of Lisbon, the EGEAC, and Latin America House, will allow the public to take ownership of the common history, the cultural exchange, and the differences between major European cities and Latin America through multiple works, which, above all, reflect contemporary creativity in all its many forms.
