This is the first Japanese exhibition devoted to the life and work of Lucas Cranach the Elder (1472-1553), one of the masters of German Renaissance painting. While depicting Venus, Salome and other classical female figures, he added a touch of unusual eroticism, very influential in its time. More than just an artist, Lucas Cranach the Elder was also a businessman. His workshop was set so as to produce series of paintings, which allowed him to create several versions of the same artwork.
This remarkable exhibition offers about a hundred paintings from the master, many among his most typical ones. For those who would like to know more about the artist, several conferences will be organised for the entire duration of the exhibition.
