Madrid celebrates Saint Isidore

Every year, street theatre, processions, and concerts take place in Madrid to celebrate the city's patron saint.

Every year in spring, Madrid celebrates San Isidro (Saint Isidore), the city's patron saint, during five days of festivities that foreshadow the biggest feria bullfight in Spain. For those who do not fancy the spectacle of a bullfight, rest assured, the Saint Isidore festival programme also offers wonderful cultural surprises. A procession in honour of the patron saint begins in the neighbourhood of La Latina, while at Retiro Park, there is improvised theatre with sensational sound and light. In addition, there are 50 free concerts and as many theatrical skits played randomly in the streets and dotted about the Spanish capital, giving it an irresistibly festive air.
