‘Marabana' Marathon in Havana

Beyond the simple athletic challenge, the Havana marathon lets runners feel the beauty of the city as they pass through it.

The previous edition of the marathon attracted over 4,000 participants, including 1,589 foreigners from 62 countries. Now, for the first time in years, American athletes have started coming in large numbers. From 80 in 2014, the number shot up to 583 runners from the US in 2015, many of whom came to celebrate in their own way the resumption of diplomatic relations between Cuba and their country.
From beginners to experienced marathoners, as well as the many tourists each year who attend the event, the ‘Marabana' is a unique opportunity to discover Havana. The city is at its finest, and Cubans show how warm and welcoming they are.
In 2015, Cuban Jorge Suarez won the men's race in 2:29:30, and Norwegian Tonje Granne topped the women's group in 3:28:23. So, will you be at the starting line?
