Marquesan tikis

Marquesan tikis

Devoted to the mythical tikis, this exhibition takes place at the Musée de Tahiti et des îles. It opens a window on Polynesian art and traditions.

Since it opened in 1975 in Punaauia, the Museum of Tahiti and other islands has become a must-go-to to better understand Polynesia through its natural and cultural heritages.

The “Marquesan Tikis” exhibition offers to discover these statues and pendants made in jade and bones that represent men with very stylised features. Male and female Polynesian people wear and house them, as they have a protective function.

Polynesian culture and aesthetics reveal themselves along the way, and make for a fascinating and enlightening journey.
