In the last 50 years especially, the arrival of concrete has almost wiped out the earth-building techniques used since the Middle Ages. Taking advantage of current ecological momentum, this method has now been brought up to date.
In this exhibition, designed in partnership with the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie in Paris, the Musée des Confluences offers a tour of 15 of these ‘new generation' houses. An interactive screen presents numerous other examples of earthen dwellings and buildings, including UNESCO World Heritage monuments. A workshop space invites the public to handle the earth and discover its scientific and sensory properties.
