Oran's International Arab Film Festival

With Oran's International Arab Film Festival, Algeria becomes the figurehead of Arab cinema.

Those past years, Oran equipped itself with new infrastructures dedicated to cinema, notably renovating three large movie theatres downtown: the Oran Cinémathèque, the Saada (former Coliseum) and the Maghreb (former Regent). Therefore, the city welcomes the FIOFA for its 9th edition. It is the only major festival in the Arab world devoted exclusively to Arab films. 17 countries enter the official competition, with a total of 38 films for the three selections: feature lengths, shorts and documentaries.

This year, the Festival will pay homage to the Algerian filmmaker Merzak Allouache and his 1976 film Omar Gatlato, which put him on the map. This cult film of the golden age of Algerian cinema introduced two actors who burst through the screen: Boualem Bennani and Aziz Degga.
