Otoño harks back to Los Angeles' Spanish past

Even though the name designates Autumn, Otoño brings Iberian warmth back to Los Angeles.

It is in Highland Park's rapidly changing neighbourhood, northeast of the city, that you will find Otoño. In the kitchen, chef Teresa Montaño draws her inspirations from her native Mexico, from the State of California where she grew up, and also from her travels, including a two-month tour of Europe with mandatory stopovers in Valencia and Barcelona. For starters, whet your appetite with an assortment of tapas: pan con tomate, Iberian ham, grilled calamari and ham croquetes will be perfect choices to start the meal on a high note. Dive into a great Spanish classic for main: the paella. If you are already familiar with this key dish that long ago extended beyond Iberian borders, you may want to try the “Setas” version, with mushrooms and black truffle. For dessert, what could be best than a crema catalana with lemon and cinnamon?
