Rome by night

Rome by night

Every Friday evening at nightfall throughout the summer and early autumn, the Roman Forum is transformed into a magical theatre of shadows and light. A must see!

Suddenly, when the night falls and the shadows lengthen between the Capitol and the Coliseum, the famous Roman ruins take on a new dimension. The reliefs of the Arch of Septimius Severus, the imposing triumphal arch built by the Senate in honour of the ten-year reign of the emperor of the same name, seem to come alive. The soldiers seem to spring out of the stone as if returning to combat. On the Via Sacra (Sacred Road), the illuminated columns of the Basilica Aemilia are even more impressive in their majesty. You will be captivated! If you speak Italian or English and would like to learn the history of these places, there are tours offered in both languages from 8:15 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. (bookings are recommended).
