Seaside racecourse at Kernic Bay

Seaside racecourse at Kernic Bay

For a few hours, Kernic Bay becomes a true racecourse, albeit with a very particular feature: the course runs alongside the ocean.

Each summer, high and low tides give way to a truly unique spectacle in Europe: horse shows on the sand, at the very heart of the majestic Kernic bay, in Finistère. Every year since 1882, the lengthy beach becomes an ephemeral seaside racecourse, complete with terraces and betting shops.

For 48 hours, the public masses along this unusual racecourse to get a view of the proud thoroughbreds and their jockeys, duelling on whether they gallop, trot or show jump.

After bets are off, food services will take over under the big top and offer plates of oysters (which have to be reserved in advance), as kids' activities are being organised. Horses and wind will provide for a magical moment, with the sea as backdrop.
