The 23rd edition of the Beirut Book Fair

Each fall, Beirut becomes the rallying point of the finest Francophone writers and their dedicated fans.

The 23rd edition of the Beirut Book Fair in 2016 will be held at the BIEL (Beirut International Exhibition & Leisure Center), at the seaside. This show, which honours francophone literature, is one of the highlights of the cultural agenda of the Lebanese capital. And for good reason: it is the third French literary salon in the world behind Paris and Montreal, and it seduces about 50,000 devoted readers every year.

More than 150 Lebanese and foreign authors gracefully fulfil the many duties of this type of event: book signings, conferences, debates, and readings. Over the past editions such stars as Maylis de Kerangal, Maxime Chattam, Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio, Frédéric Beigbeder, Katherine Pancol, and Farouk Mardam-Bey have graced the fair with their presence. But the highlight of the Beirut Book Fair is undoubtedly the announcement of the award for the Prix Goncourt / Choice of the Orient, launched in 2012 for the 20th anniversary of the show, modelled after the famous French literary prize.
