The 44th Istanbul Music Festival, inspired by Shakespeare

« If music be the food of love, play on », wrote Shakespeare. Music, the food of love, is the theme of the 2016 festival, hosting more than 600 artists.

Six hundred local and international artists will perform at 26 concerts in Istanbul, the capital city, for the 44th Istanbul Music Festival. Between 1 and 24 June, Idil Biret, Gautier Capuçon, Richard Galliano, Sylvain Luc and ensembles such as the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Artemis Quartet, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and the Warsaw Philharmonic invade concert halls, museums, homes and gardens, as well as churches in Istanbul. Note especially for this festival dedicated to Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night's Dream (op. 61) by Mendelssohn will be played at the Hagia Eirene Museum, Friday, 3 June at 8 p.m., performed by the Orchestra of the Swan and sung by soprano Ayşe Senogul.
