The Boston Dragon Boat Festival

In fine weather, the Chinese community comes together on the Charles River to celebrate the richness of its culture.

Multicultural Boston regularly holds festivals celebrating its various ethnic communities. In mid-June, the Chinese community honours the memory of the first great Chinese poet by holding a dragon boat race on the Charles River. The long Chinese racing boats are operated by rowers who stroke to the sound of a large drum. Join the large boisterous crowds following the exciting action from the river's bridges and banks. Concerts, traditional dance, and other artistic performances are held at various stages at the edge of the water, alongside Chinese food stalls and craft and calligraphy workshops. The summer atmosphere is exotic and electrifying.
