The Grand Raid takes on Reunion
Published on

Enjoy the beautiful landscape of the island of Reunion while achieving outstanding athletic performance? This is possible, thanks to the famous ‘Diagonal of Fools'. Ready, set, go!
With its elevation changes encompassing ridges and dizzying heights, volcanic soil and breath-taking views of the Indian Ocean, Reunion is a sportsman's island paradise. Every year in the fall, the Grand Raid, the island's largest trail, brings together more than 2,000 extreme runners. With a route of 167 kilometres that climbs and falls over a total of 9,700 vertical metres throughout the island, the ultra-trail deserves its nickname of ‘Diagonal of Fools'. Competitors arrive at the La Redoute stadium in Saint-Denis after about 22 hours of racing. This is a true sporting achievement—just by finishing one outdoes one's personal best.
