A replica of the Petit Palais in Paris, built the same year, the Municipal Theatre is a small architectural wonder, a relic of French colonial heritage. Influenced by the flamboyant style of the French Third Republic, especially by the architecture of the Opera Garnier in Paris, its majestic facade, where two statues have supported the entry dome since 1900, is the work of architect Eugène Ferret.
Decorations, inscriptions, and furniture, which were designed by artists specially sent from France, have lost nothing of their former glory. Today, the Saigon Opera is not open for visits, but regularly scheduled dance and classical music events offer the perfect opportunity to discover this neoclassical room.
