Once known for its antique shops and public gardens, the last few years have seen Príncipe Real become one of the coolest neighbourhoods of the Portuguese capital. Of the myriad bars and boutiques that have sprung up in recent times though, Zazah stands head and shoulders above the lot. Once you see the 25 de Abril Bridge and the outline of the Sanctuary of Christ the King looming above the Tagus in the distance, you will have arrived at the temple of fine dining.
In the kitchen is chef Moisés Franco, a former assistant to none other than José Avillez, and traditional dishes with a Brazilian carioca twist take centre stage. Ingredients are local and organic, and food is served on large sharing platters. Prepare to be wowed by the Iberian pork lagarto with chimichurri and lime - unless of course you go for the creamy black truffle purée! The atmosphere is pleasantly laid-back, with a wine list and expertly made cocktails to choose from. As the evening goes on, the restaurant grows louder and louder, until a DJ appears and Zazah transforms into a dancefloor!
