There are a number of festivals, holidays and other events celebrated in Frankfurt each year.

On the first of May, it is customary to offer a sprig of lily-of-the-valley to close ones. Many vendors occupy the pavement on that occasion!
October 3 : German Unity Day (Tag der Deutschen Einheit - national holiday)Commemorates the anniversary of Germany's reunification in 1990. Festivities in Frankfurt include a celebration at city hall with music and speeches.
December 25 - December 22 : (Weihnachtstag - national holiday)Although these events now pop up each year in many cities, Frankfurt's Christmas market on historic Römerberg Square is one of the oldest and largest in Germany. The huge Christmas tree in front of the Römer, festooned with thousands of lights, and the nearly 250 colourful and elaborately decorated market stalls, where you can find handcrafted toys, ornaments, candles and other gift ideas, along with delicious treats like gingerbread and mulled wine, are certain to get you into the festive spirit!

The Frankfurt Airport (Flughafen Frankfurt) is located 13 kilometres (8 miles) south-west of the city centre.
Public transport is the best way to get around Frankfurt, although the fares are relatively high.
There are 9 U-Bahn urban rail lines with 86 stations (58 of which are above ground) covering the entire metropolitan area. The network of bus lines also offers very dense coverage and some of them operate at night. To reach cities near Frankfurt, there are also nine S-Bahn suburban rail lines. Rail services generally operate from 4 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Tipping
In Germany, leaving a tip is recommended and always appreciated. An appropriate tip in this case is anywhere between 5 and 10% of the bill at restaurants or bars. Do not leave the tip on the table. It is better to hand it to the server when paying the bill.
